Garage Door Locks and Garage Door Security
There are various types and styles of garage handles out there, we can help you if you need them changed or mended, we can also help with upgrades to your security on your garage doors. We work on all garage doors including up and over garage doors, hinged garage doors, roller garage doors and sliding garage doors.
On garage doors you can find various types of garage locks such as the most common a garage T handle.
Standard Garage Door T Handle
The Garage handle pictured above can come in different colors mainly found in black and grey. The have a spindle bar on the back which is either square or diamond when you look at it from the back. There are 2 lugs on the back where the screws hold the handle in place when mounted on the garage door, these lugs come in 2 lengths either long or short.
You can also get various other handles of this type such as the one pictured below. The main difference between the handles pictured above and below are the size of the plate they are mounted on, and the black handle has 4 screw fixing holes rather than 2 fixing holes.
Garage Door T Handle Long Plate
You can get other handles that look very similar to the one above except that the lock that operates it is a Euro cylinder.
Garage T Handle Euro operated
These handles operate up over garage doors but have been used in other circumstances as well.
We can also fit additional security to garage doors, the main extra security devises we fit on garage doors are:
Pacri Bolts
Pacri Bolts are additional security devises for garage doors they are mounted on the back of the garage dooor and are bolted through with coach bolts, they have a escutcheon ( keyhole cover ) on the outside of the door to help protect the lock from the weather and help located the key into the lock. The bolt thats comes out is about a 70mm throw that locks into or behind the frame of the garage door. They have a 4 sided crucifix key.
Garage Defender
The garage defender comes in a couple of different styles, colors and designs. The garage defender that is colored red in the above pictures has a closed surround giving the padlock more protection from possible attack. Once in the locked position it rests close or up against the garage door preventing the garage door from being opened. The garage defender has a metal bracket drilled into the floor with bolts, the bracket has half under the garage and the other half is outside where the garage defender “t” bar and padlock locks into. These Garage Defender are Sold Secure which mean they have been independently tested to conform to police and Insurance companies standards.
Garage Bolts
If you can exit out of your rear door of your garage, we can also supply and fit bolts that are mounted on the back of the garage door but can only be opened and closed from the inside.
The bolts pictured above can be fitted left or right locking into or behind the frame or onto the top of the garage door locking into or behind the frame, they can also be fitted locking down into the floor. You can get 2 main types of these type of bolts locking or non locking, the left hand picture is non locking and could be just lifted up from the inside, the right hand picture you are able to lock in place with a padlock.
Garage Door Locking Mechanisms
The garage door locking mechanism is the part on the back of the garage that is operated by the handle. There are various types and styles of mechanisms that can be mounted on the back of your garage door. You can get mechanisms that are operated by wires and usually automatically latch lock when you shut them, and the wires pull on the sprung latches that lock behind the garage door frame.
You can also get fixed solid bar mechanisms that need to be turned by the handle and then locked in position by the key.
The locking bars and latches can lock in 1 place or a number of places around the frame.
Some of the mechanisms are discontinued but we can replace them with alternative parts.
Garage Electric Key Switches
We can also supply and fit the garage switches for you. For example say if you’ve got a electric controlled garage door and you lose a key for the key switch that makes it open and close we can either make a new key or replace various switches. We can also get the emergency release switch that has a wire on the back of it and then pulls through to disengage the motor.
Garage Door Keys
If you do lose your keys we can supply you with new keys or and new lock. On some garage door locks they actually have a key number stamped on it so you can go online and type in garage door keys and there are companies that would be able to cut new keys to that code on the lock.
Unfortunately there is a bit of a security risk with those locks when the key number is stamped on there, because anyone could say that they’ve got a garage lock they need a key for, go online, order the key, the key is sent out by post this- this lock on their door and then come along and then open the, you know, order a key online and then come back and open your garage door. So, quite a lot of people do like to grind them off, rub them off, so that nobody can see that. And then you just make a note of it, personally, what your garage door key is. But you can find them online.
